Commercial Estimator

The Commercial Estimator will play a critical role in the project lifecycle by collaborating with architects, engineers, and clients to define project specifications and requirements. This position is responsible for preparing competitive bids, negotiating contracts, and determining the necessary resources, including equipment, materials, and labor while ensuring compliance with budget constraints. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  1. Collaborate with architects, engineers, and clients to gather and analyze project specifications and requirements. 

  1. Prepare and submit bids for projects while effectively negotiating contracts to secure advantageous terms. 

  1. Assess and determine the resources required for each aspect of the project, including equipment, materials, and labor, ensuring alignment with budget limitations. 

  1. Review vendor quotes and conduct detailed material take-offs to ensure accurate cost estimation and consistency with project data. This includes comparing vendor pricing with takeoff quantities and sub-pricing to verify alignment and support reliable budgeting. 

  1. Identify and target potential projects that align with the company's strategic objectives. 

  1. Develop comprehensive proposals and manage follow-up communications through the project award process. 

  1. Support with material planning and logistics to facilitate timely procurement and delivery for project execution. 

  1. Evaluate crew size requirements, equipment rental needs, and building access considerations to optimize project efficiency. 

  1. Manage and maintain databases of material costs, labor rates, and other relevant cost information to assist with future estimating tasks.  

  1. Prepare for turnover meetings, ensuring that all relevant project details are communicated clearly to project teams. 

  1. Achieve yearly goals and objectives as defined in the Commercial Estimator Contract, contributing to the overall success of the estimating department.  

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field (preferred). 

  • Proven experience as a Commercial Estimator in the construction industry. 

  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and project management principles. 

  • Excellent analytical skills with a keen attention to detail and accuracy in estimations. 

  • Proficient in estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite. 

  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills. 

  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
