A Tail of Two Wildlife Communities
Maia Persche and Sathya Chandra Sagar (PhD candidates, UW-Madison)
Delve into the conservation and research stories surrounding two wildlife communities in very different parts of the world: oak woodlands of the Baraboo Hills and the tropical forests of the Western Ghats in Karnataka, India. Drawing from bioacoustics, caterpillar surveys and many hours of bird banding, Maia will share some results from her study in the Baraboo Hills and her plans for maintaining a long-term bird banding station. Sagara will talk about Bhadra Tiger Reserve, a conservation story which shaped the landscape where he grew up and which owes its success to a team of passionate volunteers and a nonprofit called WildCAT-C.
The 2023-24 "We Are Sauk Prairie" lecture series is sponsored by the Rooted in Conservation Fund at the Community Foundation of South Central Wisconsin.
