Title: Financial Accountant Senior (hybrid – WI resident)
FTE: Full Time (40 hours/week)
Schedule:  Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm
Holiday Rotation: None

Responsible for a variety of financial duties, financial reporting, budgeting, analysis, process improvement and workflow automation.  Performs quantitative analysis and reporting of financial data for management use in making operational changes to positively affect financial performance.  Prepares quarterly and annual payroll tax reports and assists with annual audit and Medicare and Medicaid Cost Reports. Responsible for maintenance and reconciliation of general ledger (GL), including preparation of financial statements, and analytical and statistical reporting.  Maintains asset management system, including general ledger reconciliation.   

  1. Provide day-to-day subject matter expertise regarding SPH’s budget management reporting, and Financial Planning & Analysis software systems (collectively “Decision Support” systems).
  2. Oversee the ongoing development and maintenance of SPH’s Decision Support systems and processes, including evaluation of a new cost accounting system.
  3. Assist in maintenance and reconciliation of the General Ledger.
  4. Prepare monthly regular, recurring and system journal entries.
  5. Monitor and analyze reimbursements by payer class and prepare and record monthly allowance estimates on accounts receivable.
  6. Prepare and record monthly estimates of liabilities to third-party payers.
  7. Prepare analysis of monthly actual versus budgeted performance by expense account, prepare analysis of significant variances for review.
  8. Prepare month-end organizational financial statements and statistical reports for distribution.
  9. Improves financial statement presentation, ensures meaningful financial reporting, accuracy, data integrity and timeliness.
  10. Maintain the fixed asset module with additions, retirements, and month end reconciliation to the General Ledger.
  11. Update and maintain leased asset accounts in general ledger and lease accounting software.
  12. Reconcile bi-weekly payroll, prepare & process all State & Federal tax payments and post payroll to General Ledger.
  13. Prepare and file the quarterly (941’s, unemployment, multiple worksite) and annual (W2’s and WT-7) reports.
  14. Assist in annual budget process, to include preparation of supporting documents.
  15. Provides financial reporting, financial modeling and analysis to support the budgeting process and strategic initiatives of SPH.
  16. Assist with year-end close and audit, including preparation of supporting documents.
  17. Prepare and analyze all supporting documentation for annual cost report filings.
  18. Assist in preparing all CMS wage index, occupational mix, and geographic reclassification filings.
  19. Stay current on legislative changes that impact reimbursement.
  20. Maintain Corporate credit card processing, reporting and general operations of credit card usage.
  21. Prepare monthly reconciliations and reporting for the Foundation.
  22. Provide general assistance and guidance to Finance team members. Train and help educate; providing ongoing training to existing staff; answer questions regarding team functions and assist with team direction. Actively mentor other colleagues by contributing experience and insight to the team.
  23. Working with the Finance Director, apply advanced skills to research and develop operational efficiencies in the department by automating processes and development of new reports within reporting tools.
  24. Leads process and profit improvement initiatives in Fixed Assets, Accounts Payable and other signed areas.

  • Required:  Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Preferred:  None
  • Required:  Five years of broad accounting experience with increasing responsibilities.
  • Preferred: Experience in a healthcare facility
Licenses and Registrations:
  • Required:  None
  • Preferred:  CPA or equivalent.
  • Required:  Membership (employer provided) in the Healthcare Financial Management Association will be required within 90 days of hire.

  1. Broad knowledge of current accounting principles and regulations. 
  2. Experience with financial close, budgeting and completion of audit and government reporting requirements
  3. Advanced Excel skills for financial analysis, modeling and reporting required.
  4. Experience with report writing tools and technology
  5. Must be detail oriented, committed to quality and accuracy, have advanced analytical skills (including the ability to identify and address inconsistencies in data) and ability to work independently. 
  6. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess business processes and implement improvements
  7. Strong interpersonal skills, including courtesy and diplomacy, necessary to effectively work with others as a part of a team and have the ability to effectively communicate to both financial and non-financial audiences
  8. Ability to keep sensitive information about people and the hospital’s financial affairs in strict confidence is essential.
