Save a Life with a Spray: Get Free Naloxone and Learn How to Use it to Reverse an Opioid Overdose

Heroin and the abuse of prescription painkillers are devastating our local communities. Nearly everyone these days knows someone who is addicted. In an effort to stem the tide of opioid overdose deaths, the health department has received a grant administered by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services to provide free naloxone and “Save a Life with a Spray” trainings for community members, first responders, and health professionals [via the Wisconsin Prescription Drug/Opioid Overdose-Related Death Prevention Project (WI-PDO) from SAMHSA - grant #SP022112.] Overdose deaths can be prevented with naloxone, a medication that can reverse the effects of prescription opioid and heroin overdose and can be life-saving if administered in time. Naloxone (Narcan®) is non-addictive and free to training participants, who will learn how to administer this medicine in a nasal spray to reverse an opioid overdose and save a life. The Sauk County Health Department will be launching a free overdose education and naloxone training and distribution program.
